2.1 Conditional Statements

Conditional Statement: is a type of logical statement that has two parts. When the statement is written If-Then Form the “if” part contains the hypothesis and the “then” part contains the conclusion.

This section will teach you how to rewrite a conditional statement into If-Then Form. In some cases conditional statements can be false. To show that a conditional statement is false, you need a single counterexample that shows the statements isn’t always true.

The game will start at 5 if the other players arrive soon.
IF: The game starts at 5
Then: the players are arriving soon

Water freezes at temperatures below 32
If: water freezes
Then: the temperature in below 32

There is no school Monday if it snows Sunday.
If: it snows Sunday
Then: there will be no school Monday.
